Covid 19 is increasing day by day in the country and several deaths are being reported due to coronavirus. People are facing oxygen depletion in their bodies due to the lack of immunity and various factors caused during this pandemic. As a result, people are taking safety measures in order to prevent themselves from this virus.
The question that is breaking the internet right now is “how to increase oxygen level in the body during this Covid scenario”. But I couldn’t find any proper article which answers this question properly. So, today I am going to provide you with the proper guidance to increase the oxygen level in your body. Following these steps will definitely increase your immunity as well as the oxygen level in your body.
7 ways to increase oxygen level in the body
1. Positions
1. Prone position

If someone is having breathing problems or having decreased oxygen level in the body you should definitely try the prone position to increase the oxygen level. This position is indeed a miracle in aspects of increasing the oxygen level. You will see results within seconds. This is a simple home technique.
Take two pillows, put one under your shin and another one under your chest. Then you lie down on your stomach and take deep breaths. Take your oximeter and check the results. You will see the oxygen level going up miraculously within seconds.
This occurs because this position helps in evenly distributing oxygen throughout your body and boosts your overall oxygenation process. Do this regularly for 30 minutes, three to four times a day. This will keep your oxygen level above 95.
2. Right lateral position

Lie on your right and keep your legs parallel. The arm should be kept below the head. Take continuous deep breaths while in this position. This works in the same mechanism as the prone position but the changes seen in the oxygen level are slow. Follow this position for 30 minutes every day.
3. Left lateral position

Once you are done with the right lateral position, move to the left side, while keeping your legs parallel. The arms should be always below the head. Do this for another 30 minutes.
4. Siting up position

This is a very simple posture. Just sit straight up and keep your legs straight out. This maintains your posture and helps in the supply of oxygen to all parts of the body. Do this for 30 minutes regularly.
2. Get a nebulizer for home use
We all know about the situations in hospitals right now. Lack of beds, lack of oxygen cylinders in hospitals are the few problems among many, in this Covid situation. So you should definitely get a nebulizer for your home use. The basic use of a nebulizer is that it helps in supplying medicine directly to the lungs by aerosolization process.
These nebulizers are basically prescribed for children who cannot directly take medicines. There are two types of medicines that you should use in this nebulizer if your oxygen level goes down.
1. Bronchodilators ( Levosalbulamol )
This medication opens up your constricted windpipe in your body so that oxygen can easily enter through the windpipe. The medicine brands that are included in this category are Levolin. The doses are different for adults and children.
- For adults – 1.25mg/ml
- For children- 0.63mg/ml
2. Steroid (Budecort and foracort)
This acts as the inflammatory medication. This also opens up your trachea windpipe allowing easy passage of oxygen. This systematically distributes oxygen.
Use levolin and budecort both if you are facing severe oxygen deficiency. You will find results within minutes. If your oxygen level is below 88 then you should definitely start using these medications with a nebulizer. Don’t forget to consult your doctor before going for these medications.
3. Acupressure treatment
If you are covid positive and your oxygen level is continuously growing down then this is one of your best options. This does not mean that you will leave your ongoing treatment and entirely keep your faith on acupressure points. Ongoing treatment by your doctor with this acupressure point works efficiently.
So what is the acupressure point for increasing the oxygen level?
This is a 2 point treatment. Both of the points are found on our index finger which represents the lung meridian. This is a very simple process. You just need a black marker. Make one dot on the first joint of your index finger towards the thumb. This is known as the LU9 point. When you put this dot on the LU9 point the oxygen level normalizes and the lungs start functioning normally.
The next point is the LU6 point. This dot should be applied just below the LU9 point. The main work of the LU6 is that it subsides the pathogens that attacked your lungs slowly. This creates a balance in the body.

Use these acupressure points along with your ongoing treatment for faster healing. Use both LU6 and LU9 points regularly. If the black color becomes dull, apply again and continue the process.
4. A home tip to keep your respiratory system healthy
During this scenario, you need to keep your respiratory system healthy for proper breathing and maintaining the oxygen level.
- Take a white cloth
- Put 1 tsp of carrom seed (ajwain) on the white cloth.
- Take a piece of camphor especially Desi camphor (Desi kapoor)
- Wrap this in the white cloth to make it a bundle
- Now smell this every time with intervals of an hour
This helps in maintaining the oxygen level in your body and keeps the respiratory system healthy.
But this has been a topic of controversy recently, if this works or not. Scientifically, this has not been proven write yet. So before using this technique consult your regular doctor.
5. Homeopathic medicines
1. Carbo Veg 200
Carbo Veg 200 is a great homeopathy medicine to increase the oxygen level. If you or any of your known ones are facing issues with breathing, can consume Carbo Veg 200.

The main function of this homeopathy medicine is that it keeps your respiratory centers active. Due to Covid, pneumonia has been a common disease.
Due to pneumonia, your alveoli in your lungs become hard or swollen. As a result, the lungs cannot expand and there is no proper transport of oxygen. This is the part when Aspidosperma Q comes to the rescue. It activates the respiratory centers of your lungs and decreases the inflammatory condition of your lungs.
Dose – Give 10 drops with 1/4th cup of water, 3 times a day
Always consult your doctor before use of any medications.

Steam inhalation is important but not only with hot water. Some spices need to be mixed in warm water.

- 1/2 tsp of cinnamon powder
Mix these 3 spices in the water and put them in your steamer. Boil them up and take the steam. Take this steam at a gap of every 2 hours as these spices contain great anti-inflammatory functions, as well as anti-bacterial functions. They help in the recovery of your swollen lung as helps you in proper breathing.
7. Consume foods rich in oxygen
Take these oxygen-rich foods every day in your diet if you are facing oxygen deficiency in your body.
- Spinach – Rich in iron so it helps in carrying oxygen to various parts of your body.
- Broccoli– Presence of high amount of oxygen.
- Avocados – They have high water content and facilitates oxygenation.
- Sweet potatoes – High in oxygen and protects the body from different types of damages.
