Saffola veggie twist oats review
Rolled oats
Rolled oats are the type of oats used in Saffola veggies twist oats. Rolled oats are made by steaming and rolling raw oats so that they can be easily prepared. The normal oats that we generally buy from the market take a lot of time to be prepared. On the other hand, rolled oats can be prepared within minutes as they are already pre-prepared. So such oats are used to reduce the preparation time by making oats softer and easy to prepare.
Dried vegetables
As the name suggests, Saffola veggie twist oats, contains vegetables and this is the ingredient that makes it different from other variants. Saffola claims that it has a lot of vegetables present in it compared to other variants. In the name of dried vegetables, it contains carrot, green peas and french beans. The percentage of vegetables ranges from 1-2% which seems very less. A pinch of vegetables can never justify the name “veggie twist”. If you like vegetables or you want to add vegetables to your oat breakfast always try to add fresh vegetables. This will make the oats a healthier and tastier option. The packaging seems very misleading as the number of vegetables shown in the packaging is not found inside.
Spices
More or less, Saffola veggie twist oats contain the same spices as the classic and its other variants. The ingredient list mentions chilly, ginger, turmeric, garlic, cardamom, cinnamon and curry leaves as spices.
Yeast extract
This is another ingredient that makes Saffola veggie twist oats different from its other variants. Yeast extracts are the same yeast that we find in our regular bread. Yeast extract is added to a product to enhance the taste and is considered safe for our health.
Anticaking agent 551
Another unique ingredient that is found in Saffola veggie twist oats is the anticaking agent 551. Anticaking agent is generally added to a product so that it does not form lumps and maintains consistency throughout. The anticaking agent is also known as silica and is not at all harmful to our health.
Acidity regulators and flavor enhancers
The acidity regulator used in Saffola veggies twist oats is 330. The classic version of Saffola oats uses acidity regulator 320 which is not good for our health. But acidity regulator 330 is safe for our health and is considered the best acidity regulator. Cheers to Saffola that they upgraded to this one. The acidity regulator is citric acid which is 100% compatible with your health. The acidity regulator maintains the pH of the product.
Saffola veggies twist oats mentions the presence of flavor enhancers 627 and 631 which are again not harmful to our health. In fact, the WHO has approved the usage of both 627 and 631 in edible products. These flavor enhancers are safe for both adults and children.
Added color
Another major difference between Saffola veggies twist oats and other saffola oats variant is the usage of added color 100. Other variants are free from added colors but veggies twist mentions the presence of color 100. The color 100 is generally curcumin and provides the “haldi” color. This color is again not harmful to our health.
Conclusion
More or less, Saffola veggie twist oats are 100% safe for your health and do not contain any harmful ingredients that can adversely affect your health. But is always advisable to consult your doctor if you are having heart-related problems, diabetes or kidney-related issues. It is quite admirable that brands like Saffola are actually caring for our health and including ingredients that are not harmful to our health unlike most other brands available in the Indian markets.
